Screw Magazine Goes Back to Black …and White.

In a surprise move that will rock the world of no one, nowhere, not at all, legendary Screw Magazine has removed all color from its infamous online magazine. Well, not all of it, but most of it — enough of it, anyway.

As of March 1, 2024, gone are the glamorous, color photos of porn stars doing what they do, replaced by gritty, black-and-white images of those same porn stars doing what they do. It’s a throwback to the days of old, when newsprint copies of Screw Magazine littered the Five Boroughs of New York City. There was a time when you couldn’t walk down the street without seeing pages of Screw in the gutter or stuck to a fence.

Screw’s nostalgic redesign was purposefully (and masterfully) done to mimic its old print format. It’s meant to bring readers back to a time when the adult industry was a kinder, gentler world (ok, that’s a lie), while still moving forward with updated new releases (“Dirty Diversions”), funny-yet-filthy stories (“Flaccid Funnies”), interviews, sex ads, and exclusive articles you won’t find anywhere else.

It’s not all without color though. Like the original Screw Magazine, the “cover art” is in color and changes every week to highlight a different artist. Also the “center” is in full color, where it displays the week’s Featured Performer, top-selling adult films, and of course, some ads. And finally, the “back” — or in this case, the bottom of the website — is also in color. Together, this gives the online version of Screw Magazine the same look and feel of the printed version. And with it’s old-school links scattered throughout, it’s like going back to the 90s.

Time will tell if this new redesign was worth the twenty minutes it took to do it, but it seems as though traffic is already increasing with many of the porn stars featured on it excited to see themselves in black-and-white.

In the sea of internet color, it definitely sets Screw apart. But then again, Screw has never had a problem setting itself apart.
